OC Progressives for John Edwards September Meetup (2007)

Our main speaker for September will be Melahat Rafiei, the former political director, and now the newly selected executive director of the Orange County Democratic Party. Melahat is considered one of the most outstanding young Democrats in the state and in 2007 won the California party's John F. Kennedy Jr Award.

Melahat has announced that precinct organization is a major goal of the county party for the upcoming presidential election. She'll be telling us how we can get connected to efforts to move Orange County more decidedly into the "purple" column. You can combine this work with your campaigning for John Edwards!

For those who think of the Democratic Party in Orange County as too marginalized to make a difference, think again! We have almost a half million registered Democrats here. Our headquarters is open five days a week, with paid employees and interns.

John Edwards will be the speaker at our annual Truman Dinner in October. Melahat will be giving the details of how you can attend.

We have had some great meetups this summer: The Dream Act (Immigration), Health Care with One Care Now, Steve Young on how to win, Impeachment with the Bill Moyer's interviews. Now, with only 5 months to go before California makes its presidential choice, lets learn how we can get out among our neighbors, get them registered and voting, and prepare for victory in 2008!ute.
